3 questions tour guides should answer

It takes time and effort to recruit prospective students. Here’s how school tour guides can help your school come out on top.
Let’s face it: When high school seniors start touring college campuses, they have a lot going on.
Of course, they’re looking for a school that will be a good fit, but they’re also still thinking about prom … and graduation … and friends.
That means most students usually forget to ask some important questions.
Here are three questions tour guides should answer — even if visiting students don’t think to ask them:
- “Why did you choose this university?” When tour guides share their personal reasons for attending, it highlights positive aspects of the school. Doing so also makes prospective students aware of academic programs, career services, safety initiatives and health-related options that are available.
- “What’s one thing you’d like to change about the school?” Honestly addressing areas that can be improved shows perspective students that the school actively seeks out suggestions. It also gives tour guides the opportunity to talk about improvement projects that are currently in the works.
- “What’s the surrounding area like?” Talking about the city and state paints a picture of how the student’s daily life will be. Tell prospective students about nearby “hot spots” and annual events.
