College cracks down on student citizenship

The illegal immigration debate has invaded this school’s admissions office. Here’s what happened.

An undocumented student was found to be paying in-state tuition costs at Kennesaw State University, despite Georgia’s policy of requiring illegal immigrants to pay the more expensive out-of-state tuition.

As a result, the State Board of Regents is looking for new ways to check the citizenship of all students. The board has also approved two measures to catch undocumented students, by:

  • Barring university presidents from granting in-state tuition waivers to undocumented students, and
  • Giving colleges 60 days to review student applications.
