Ever wonder what students really think about your school? Here are 10 Web sites that give you the real dirt about college life.

This list of social media resources for prospective students was compiled by Mashable.com. Just click on the bold-faced site name to check it out:

  • College Prowler guidebooks used to be sold only in stores. Now, the Web site offers tons of info, along with student editorials and reviews.
  • Unigo lets students rate the colleges they attend – including topics such as drug and alcohol culture and the political environment.
  • Communiversity uses text, photos and videos, giving each college its own page.
  • Campus Buddy lets high school students connect with students attending a particular college. There’s also a Q&A section where visitors can ask questions – and get answers from students enrolled at a given college.
  • Rate My Professors gives students an idea about the types of professors at a given school.
  • The College Blog Network is just what it says: Student-written blogs about campus life. The Web site will be renamed CollegeBlender in a few weeks.
  • StuVu offers outstanding videos that give a good sense of what each college is like.
  • YouTube EDU provides videos – including lectures and interviews with professors – for many universities.
  • The University Review has student-rated categories in academics, athletics, dining, parties and nightlife, etc.
  • YourCampus360 gives 360-degree virtual tours of college campuses and environs. It’s a great way to get the feel of a school.
